Hide DC options based on selection

Is there a way to hide a dynamic component option based on the selection of another option? Basically I don't want to display too many options/options on objects that aren't displayed.
A current work around I have for this is to have options at the lower level assemblies but it would be beneficial to have all options at the high level.
