Scene Animations Not Working When "Styles" Dialog Is Open
-
I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but when the "Styles" dialog in the Default Tray is open, transition animations between scenes does not work. Instead of smoothly transitioning per the animation specifications selected (Window/Model Info/Animation), there seems to be ~1 second delay, then an instant transition with no animation. I stumbled upon this, and I also stumbled upon the "solution" after uninstalling/reinstalling Sketchup Pro 2018 did NOT solve the problem. If I close the dialog box, scene transition animations work properly. Am I the only one this happens to, or is this normal?

I just tested scene animation with the Styles window open and it worked as normal. It runs a little slow if there's a sketchy style applied to the scenes but nothing I wouldn't expect. Since the graphics card is heavily involved in this, I would look at yours and its drivers. What kind of card are you using and have you recently upgraded the drivers?
The other question is how did you install SketchUp when you did? Double click on the installer? Right click and choose Run? or right click and choose Run as administrator. Only the last of those three options will result in correct installation. If you didn't do that, close SketchUp, find the installer or redownload it, and try Run as administrator. If give a choice, choose the Repair option.

Thank you very much, I am going to try this tonight!

Good luck. Maybe you'll want a frosty mug nearby.

"OK Google... How to upgrade graphics card driver" Umm, yep, never done that before! (I'm not the most computer savvy crayon in the box). It looks like an AMD Radeon HD 7640G. (Decent card? Meh card? No idea!) I ran Update Driver, and it says Windows has determined that I have the latest driver installed, dated 3/8/2012. I'm not looking to turn this into a graphics card driver post, but that did not solve the problem. Which is not a very troubling problem because alls I needs to do is close the "Styles" window and the problem goes away.
I also followed your good advice to run the installer as Administrator and then selected "Repair", as this crayon also failed to properly "Run as Administrator" the first time. That also did not change my problem, but I feel better knowing I now have Sketchup correctly installed on my computer!
Thank you for your help! I think I better keep that frosty mug in the refrigerator for now... table saws and cool frosties don't mix... well.
-
Although it has an easy fix, it's strange that you are getting it. Maybe you aren't holding your tongue right.
Tablesaws and cool frosties don't mix well indeed. I always leave the frosty ones in the fridge and count my fingers when I go to the shop and count 'em again when I come back from the shop just to make sure.
-
Agreed, though the cool frosties alone are more often to blame for missing (or extra) digits. Too many pints of the Johnny Jump Up makes it very difficult to enumerate all those fingers and arrive consistently at 9.
