An idea to implement in Open Kitchen.
-
Last day, I got an offer for a small kitchen renovation. The kitchen is old style. I have the plan sketch drawn out. Tried few reading and online research and came up with few ideas. One main issue that I face with the design is There is a projection inwards that is taking a good space out of the kitchen area. This is a space from the other room bathroom. The house owner wants all new modern facilities and he doesn’t need anything to restructure the whole home. If I am to take off the bathroom projection, then I could come up with a space for a small island. Otherwise, for something like an island, I would have to chop open the side wall, and make it look like a cafe counter, placing seating on the other side. And put up led lighting. The kitchen remodelling in Toronto in one of their blog posts - http://www.avonlearenovations.com/blog/kitchen-renovations/3-renovation-ideas-for-a-small-kitchen/ - has given some good ideas that helped me with the development of plan which is attached. Please suggest what would be good and not, with my plan and also help me with the development of 3D structure for an easy evaluation for the house owner, before the work starts. I have attached the image file for the 3D design I have developed too.
Can you suggest any good option to be used with the open space.

Are you asking for someone to make the 3D model? Or are you hiring someone?

Not actually, Rich.
I am working on the 3D myself. My doubt was if I can add up something more to the already designed plan sketch. Like on the other side to kitchen entrance after the projection space, I had in my plan allotted space for Fridge, but to this side, If I change on removing the door to entrance. Is there any utilization that can be brought in. As for the projection space, I had asked them in collecting few wall mounts of artistic value, like huge drawings or so or had suggested that we could do some wall paintings, my friend Annette is a good artist and she would be glad to help and be involved in the project. -
Inward opening doors seem to encroach on the space. Especially a door opening onto cooker where someone will likely be.

I'm guessing that door on the left is to outside. Maybe it can be moved to the oven side. Exterior doors usually open in but depending on where they are and with the right hardware they could open out... Should be glass door. What's out there? Can a sliding glass door be used there across the space instead ? Is that window really over the counter there on the left? Conflict with cabinets or OK?

A small TV could go on that wall or it can be setup for hanging utensils, aprons. shallow niches could be made for spices or oils (Maybe with little guards to keep the bigger items from falling out).
Can't give a lot of useful ideas without a full understanding of what they want in the apartment and how much they are willing to spend / tear out. One can only throw out ideas only you and the owners can figure out if they fit the project. Are the doors necessary? Most people don't have doors at the kitchen... Is one to the outside? Depending on preferences and what is over on the right I'd want to take out the whole wall and make that peninsula as wide as possible (32" wide passageway).
The kitchen is very small (in my frame of reference anyway) so efficient cabinets and the nicest, most utilitarian equipment are most important. Clever use of any spaces for storage or fixtures is also appreciated. Make exact measurements of the space and utilize them in the drawings, making allowances for clearances (drawer spaces and door swing). Measure well. How thick are those walls? ...The size of doors and appliances.
Show the dishwasher. show the upper cabinets in the plan in some way to make it clear there is open counter space below or not (I use dotted lines). Do the interior elevation drawings of all walls once the plan is well along and the major appliance spaces determined (not that it won't change). The elevations might help with ideas and cause you to rearrange the plan.
Other thoughts: Good electrical fixture design and lighting are also key. That wall pantry space on the right could include a counter height open area, if that's desired to get a bit more prep space, like a spot for the wine serving or coffee maker. Cabinet maker and equipment supplier will be big helpers for ideas in this small space. I'd be sure the cabinets ran to the ceiling with extra storage up high.
