      **Hi there guys,

I'm relatively new to sketchup, been working with it for around 3 months now and finally beginning to get to grips with a small amount of the vast amount of things you can accomplish with it.

I have one query; i'm trying to do some elevations using the section cuts but don't want the standard rectangle shape. I want to change the shape of the section cut if it is possible?

I'm using V-Ray as a rendering platform and I know that you can use the Mesh Clipper in that to create different shaped cuts but I want to use the graphics from sketchup for a presentation for a client.

I've attached an image to show what I mean and what my desired section cut shape would be.
It's not the greatest as it was just a quick pen drawing but hopefully I can get some answers!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

      Best,

      Joe**

There's no facility for doing that directly in SketchUp. With some creative grouping you could achieve the same appearance with two section plane. If you insert a section plane inside a group, only entities within the group will be shown with a section cut. Leverage that to create the elevation you want.

If you were going to use LayOut for your presentation, you could do this more easily by creating two different scenes each with a different section cut but with the same camera position. Then adjust the size of the viewports for each scene to cut off at the jag in your sketch and put the viewports next to each other.

Maybe take a look at Eneroth Cut Surface Organizer.
