Imported rtf table column widths all messed up
-
I created a table in Word, got it just so, and saved it as an rtf. I imported the table into LO, and all the information made it over, but the column widths are whacked, and there is a strange carryover from one column to another. (in the image which I hope is attached, column 3, the title should be "Reinforcing", which is exactly what it says in the rtf. However, as you can see, the last "S" from the column to the left was carried over. I've seen this before in other tables.)
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

My understanding is that RTF files don't retain that sort of formatting very well. Instead you could use an xls file to populate a table you create with the Table tool in LO or if you really want to use the RTF file, use tabs to separate the columns. If you need the borders between bits of text, you could place the text box over a grid you've drawn in LO.
I usually use the tab-separated columns but I don't care about things like borders. For something that looks like what you show but better, I'd use the Table tool and an xls file.

Thanks, Dave. The table/excel works. I just hate excel for tables of text, Word is really a better tool for it.

Now I remember why I moved away from using excel to do tables in LO. None of the subscript/superscript formatting carries over, and I can't seem to correct that in the layout table.

I guess the alternative at this point would be to make tab separated columns and draw the lines in LO.
