It's been awhile since I worked with this feature. Isn't possible to have both shading and the foreground photo? I turn the opacity down but if the foreground photo is on there's no shading in the model. Makes it difficult to see results as you draw over the photo.

You're right. If the foreground image is on, even if Opacity is set to 0, there's no shading. There isn't a way to enable the shading short of turning off the foreground image. Not sure if that's intended behavior or some shortcoming of OpenGL. Usually this isn't a big problem for me but once in awhile, it would be nice to have. Since I can't get shading, I use guidelines when there is confusion.

          Dave,

Thanks. It's not always a problem. I am just modeling along and thinking "Why does it seem hard to see the faces created as i draw?" Shading is more helpful in visual feedback than I'd thought.

Kind of funny how you can miss something you take for granted.

I guess if you can manage without the image, you could orbit slightly to get the shading when you need it.

You can also keep the styles window open and toggle the foreground picture-- That way you don't have to regen the matched photo and lose your working angle. It's mostly for close up work, trying to fake in a dormer or something from the photo.

                That's true, too.
