Shortcuts disabled after pressing F1 (SKP Pro 2016)
-
Hi fellow SketchUppers,
I've started working with SketchUp Pro 2016 recently and I've hit upon quite an annoying problem. Whenever I hit the F1-key, all of my shortcuts won't respond. I've used SketchUp for many years, and I know that hitting the F1-key in the past versions of SKP would bring you to the Help Window in the internet browser. Not this time though.
I tried hitting the F1-key again, in the hope of re-enabling the shortcut functions. Nothing happened. The only way to get them working again was by restarting SketchUp.
Also the shortcuts don't seem to reset. When I check them in the preferences tab, the shortcut keys are still there.I've tried looking for an answer on the internet and this forum, but wasn't successfull. It becomes very frustrating since hitting the F1-key by accident occurs from time to time.
I was wondering if any of you encountered the same problem and are able to help me out. Perhaps it's something new in SKP Pro 16 that I'm not aware of. I posted this in the bug-section since I'm not really familiar with the problem and suspected a bug is the problem.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Sjotcher

F1 does still Open the Help page in Sketchup 2016. Since it opens the web page in the internet browser, the focus changes from SketchUp to Internet Explorer (or Safari on Mac). Are you sure the IE window isn't opening? Unless you return the focus to SU, the keyboard shortcuts won't work.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I'm absolutely sure IE or any other browser for that matter don't / won't open. I was still able to orbit and pan with the mouse in SU. So after knowing I had the SU window openend, I tried hitting the shortcuts, but nothing. I've tested it a few times by closing and restarting SU. After the restart, the shortcuts were working again, but hitting F1 disabled them for some reason. Today I started the PC again, and now the shortcuts still work after hitting F1. though I get a message from Windows that IE can't start (which happens to be a common problem, that still needs to be fixed). So my guess is that the shortcut bug has got to do with that same IE error and perhaps an intern error in Windows. I'm gonna try to work around it for now.

Have you made sure Internet Explorer is up to date? If it won't open, that's likely a problem. I've tested F1 on three different computers running SU2016 and Internet Explorer opens to the main Sketchup Help page every time.
If IE has hung up and not opened after you hit F1, the keyboard focus would not be on SketchUp until you bring the focus back by clicking in the SketchUp window. Interestingly, Zoom and Orbit work even when SketchUp is not the active application. All you need to do is get the cursor over the model space. I run into this once in awhile. I'llhave a PDF or some other application active on my second monitor perhaps to get a dimension. I move the cursor back to SketchUp but don't click on its window or otherwise make SketchUp the active application. Orbiting works but keyboard shortcuts and entering numbers into the Measurements box don't work.
By the way, please complete your profile.

Hi Dave!
Fitst of apology for the late reply, I managed to get it working by myself eventually. For some reason it started working after a few reboots. Which is strange, because why so sudden? The Main Sketch-Up help page opens in Google Chrome when I press F1. I also want to say that, when I had the problem there wasn't any case of the cursor not being in the active Sketch-Up window. I was'active in the Sketch-Up apllication, yet hitting shortcuts didnt work. Luckily it works fine now. This thread can be closed if you ask me
Best regards,
