Reconstitute Layout file from Temp? Help!
-
I had a Derp! moment and pasted a viewport into a text field on the last thing I was doing before presenting to the client and now the file is totally rogered. So broken that it crashes on open.
I found the temp file but it's all separate XML files in a folder. How do you put it all back together manually?
My plan is to remove the offending page (the first page) manually and open it.
Is this possible?
Here's the folder (zipped)

I've had not much success editing a LayOut file outside of LO and getting it back together so it'll open. I did do a mass change of font on all pages and that worked. Maybe something similar would work for you.
Find the original LO file, make a copy and change its file extension to .zip. then open it and extract the contents to a folder. Find the XML file for the page. If you can find the bad text box, you might be able to just delete it. After saving the changes, rezip the file. then change it back to .layout and see what happens.

Awesome Dave...
... so am I right in thinking that the .layout file is just a zip file containing all the XML etc and if I just zip it and change the extension from .zip to .layout it should work??

Well... it is a zip file. Editing the XML file can be done but I haven't always had success in getting the LO file to open again once I've edited, rezipped, and converted to back to .layout. On the other hand, at this point, you haven't really got anything to lose.
Good luck. Here's hoping for a positive report.

Hey Jason-
I just downloaded your .zip archive and successfully recreated a LayOut file from it. I didn't need to delete any pages, and I was able to open and view all of the pages in the recreated document.
You are correct that a LayOut file is just a .zip archive of all of the .xml files.
I will PM you a link to my fixed version of the file on DropBox.
