What are nowadays the best alternatives or softwares to bring Autocad (dwg-files) to Sketchup?

I am using the free version of Sketchup and I would like to bring some dwg files into Sketchup. Also, I would like to clean the file by deleting certain layers before bringing the file into Sketchup. There is no need to use the software for drawing but mostly cleaning the file.

I have noticed that there are some free or cheap software available but I would like to avoid testing them all. Would there be any recommendations? For some years ago there was DoubleCad that was free to use but it seems that it is no longer available.

Or is the any other good ways to import the dwg file to Sketchup and have the ability to clean the layers in Sketchup?

Version 7.1 of Google SketchUP had a free DWG importer plugin - not sure where you would get hold of those packages now though.
There are DXF importer plugins, but I don't have any experience of them.
Draftsight is a decent free DWG file based CAD package that can save to DXF.
You can delete layers easily in SKUP, just select the layer & press delete, press the option you want.

I use it all the time; it's my workhorse for dwg/dxf and has a great community and many free plugins certainly not that cheap - NZ$770

Thanks for the tips! I already downloaded Draftsight and it looks quite handy and simple. Thanks also for that dxf import plugin I didn't know that this is available.
