UVW Mapping on to complex curved surfaces
-
Hi all, having switched from traditional high-end 3d software I am now fully indoctrinated in SU. My biggest bug-bear is the clunky way it handles textures - fine for flat surfaces but stray beyond that and it suddenly becomes a dark art of complex jiggery-pokery and plug-in's. For example In 3D studio max you simply apply a UVW map and select if you want it to be planar/spherical or cylindrical. I have researched a few threads here and elsewhere and looked at UVTools (which now seems obsolete) and SketchUV (which quite frankly scares the pants off me!).
My question is; other than projecting textures has anyone round an easy to use plug-in/method for overcoming this issue?
Thanks.

Thanks folks - wrap-r looks pretty powerful, but I really wanted a solution that works withinSU. I will give ThruPaint a go. I'm surprised Trimble haven't looked at integrating better mapping.
Thanks again.

It, does work within SU, it just opens another window by the looks of it.
