SketchUp to ArchiCad?

I'm not a good person to help you as I never tried anything like that, but I'm very curious to know what you will eventually achieve.
Why don't you post this in Sketchup forums. There you will have direct contact with Trimble team and there you can clearly see they are very concerned with all things BIM related. This will certainly be a matter of interest to them.

Thanks! It's possible I'll reach a different audience there so I'll put a similar post on their boards. I think the issue is more on the ArchiCAD side though. We've called their tech support and they put us in a queue so who knows when we'll hear back.

in the context of this thread, I would like to ask an additional question
Today I have received a SkUp file, exported from ArchiCad.
All the geometry and all the layers are transferred perfectly.
My problem now is, that no instance, group or component is obtained.
Everything is now a "slurry" of surfaces and lines.
Is there is no way to export ArchiCad to SKP, and still keeping the groups or instances?
Since you are using ArchiCAD, I would appreciate any hint...Regards

Sorry I'm not going to be much help with the conversation from ArchiCAD to SketchUp. My experience is limited. We're transitioning from 2d AutoCAD and SU to ArchiCAD BIM and SU for supplemental stuff. Our hope was actually to use SU as a schematic design tool to help build models in ArchiCAD. Our first go-round so far has been unsuccessful.

An obvious but tedious solution to your problem would be to export multiple isolated components of your model into Archicad.
You can find plugins to export all components to a folder.
The problem will be inserting them in the correct place inside your model.

There are many dialogues on web about this topic. Many ArchiCad users recommend to use
the "old" DWG Export for keeping groups and instances. Assuming I will get a DWG export file
from the architect, I will try that and report here, whether this works with more success... -
In Revit, I use a dwg export with the options set to export as autocad solids. This creates a perfect export / import to Skecthup with everything grouped appropriately. Does such an option exist in Archicad? Only downside is that the materials don't come across.

ArchiCAD to SketchUp - Just for your information.
Meanwhile, I have received a DWG export from ArchiCAD.The first conspicuous behavior is that the exported SKP file sice was about 100 MB, the exported DWG file sice of the same model content was only about 10 MB. For this sice not even DropBox was necessary, that could be sent by email.
The model groups or model components have been preserved, which made it at least possible to work with this file.
Unfortunately, almost all surfaces are triangulated, which would mean a huge amount of cleaning.
(This triangulation effect did not occur in the previous SKP Export)Although there are only a few types of windows, which are recognized by SkUp as a component, it brought no advantage, since all (same) components are numbered now - such as Window 01, Window 02, etc.
Overall - I could work with this file, but I could use it in first place just as a template.

Sorry I can't be more help with the ArchiCAD to SU transfer but I do have a solution to my original post. It turns out you have to save down to SketchUp 7. We figured this out a couple weeks ago but thought I'd share and put a bookend on this one. Thanks for everyone's input.
