I got a little bored with the car, what with things not going to plan at the moment so wondered what my idea of a kart to enter the Red Bull challenge would look like.

A pastiche of a 1960's fighter aircraft got the vote with a Challenger tank a close second. Not sure if I will finish this but it got my mind off other things.

        👍
a really cool (MIG ?) design!
If that thing ever goes out to the street, a parachute to slow down after the
finishline would be a cool gadget

Thanks, I noticed the average kart disintegrate on the way down the hill and being strong enough to take the obstacles would be the main problem. Based between the mig 21 and lightning mostly.

Suspension and steering have me a little lost for direction atm but must be simple.

Did not like the rear of the chassis, changed with a rotated frame rather than curviloft.

Great looking racer, Mike. But I wonder if the pocket around the red cone will create too much wind resistance, especially at high speeds.

Thanks Daniel, I am thinking of having slots on the side of the nose to allow that air out. I may just omit the whole thing though. For the challenge the subject must be interesting first and efficient last.

                  Hi Mike
just a thought - could a three wheel concept be a suitable variant for your jet-design?

Interesting but no, those things are terribly unstable and I have yet to see one get past the second obstacle. If you are going to do anything with three wheels, the single wheel should be at the rear of the vehicle for stability purposes.

Nice mike, you'd want to be willing to spend some money on the cockpit cover! I see $$$$!

I love the idea of billycart racing, would love to see it more than just a silly free for all but a proper downhill challenge like downhill MTB!

Thanks, agreed on both those points Richard, the screen would probably be cut down for headroom as much as anything. The widest part of the cockpit is just over 18 inches at the elbows so a taller person might have problems fitting.

                              great stuff!

Could I suggest lowering the centre of gravity by increasing the height of wheel axles? Or add a bend in the axle so the craft sits lower against the floor.

Good suggestion and I am working on it, also the suspension, braking and steering system. In fact first draft is in. I can not go too low as some of the suspension characteristics rely on a bit of vertical movement. It might hurt if it goes too low.

I dropped the shell by 1.75 inches and the suspension attachment bars by 3 inches which will allow the body to achieve the lower centre of gravity mentioned above. Some of the frame is in as are the disc brakes which will come from a street bike. The actual suspension hydraulic units will also come from a street bike but are not attached yet.
