Using CAD file to trace rectangles
-
Hello all,
I wanted to import a .dwg file which has all the rectangles, how will sketchup detect these rectangles so that I can directly push/pull them. I could do them manually but while creating groups i.e triple clicking the mouse button all the other geometry is also been selected, how to get rid of this.
I tried turning of layers but it still selects the lines. How can I select only the object which I push/pulled?Thank you

To just select what you have push-pulled. I believe you need the plugin "SelectionToys" Then you can select all in that area (right to left selection) and choose "select only/ "faces" in the contextual menu. You group the result and it will group just the faces and edges of those faces, leaving edges or groups etc. behind.
If you are working with imported edges, be sure everything is on Layer0 before making a model from them.
Sometimes it easier to leave the imported geometry grouped and draw the rectangles over it snapping to the vertices in the group. Then what you draw is naturally separated from the imported background.

pbacot thanks for that plug-in info. As you I do trace from the cad file snapping at corners and edges it's easy to do. But if they are two rectangles just side to each other when I draw them with snapping the corners and pushpull one of them while making the group it still selects the other one. Anyways I hope the plug-in will work. Anything for the work to get done:) THANKS!

Well can you make a rectangle and pushpull it and make a group, Then make the next rectangle etc. Grouping the drawn geometry as you go?
The selectiontoys idea only works if you are trying to separate faces from misc. edges without faces--which I thought you meant.
