Probably not the right place to post this, but here it is anyway

Does anybody have any idea what this is? It's in front of an old gas station, next to a gas pump. I can't research it until I know what the heck to search for.

Why don't you go over and post your query in the forum at Garage Journal β€” http://www.garagejournal.com

They have a particular focus on vintage garage paraphernalia, and tons of knowledgable people there. I'd be surprise if you didn't get a very informed answer there.

I'd say that pretty much looks like an apparatus for measuring and dispensing subterranean reservoir liquid petroleum, circa vintage

thanks Box. Yeah, I've searched a bunch of sites like that one, can't seem to find anything that resembles the pump in question

You don't think these are different year models of the same type of fuel pump?

Well, yes, they are similar but the difference in the year models appears to be too great. "My" pump has some sort of ratchet for a pump, the newer one has a rotary handle. And a lot of other differences, just too "new" for my purposes.

                    yeah, I are nitpicky πŸ˜†

Actually, db11's suggestion sparked a memory for me, I became a member of a number of forums dealing in this sort of thing when I was working on some old gas stations, don't know why I didn't think of that before I even posted it here (doh!). One of the best is called Primarily Petroliana, gonna post this in their forums and see what they come up with.

It's a real bitch trying to function when you only have two active brain cells left (and they won't talk to each other) πŸ˜’

The ratchet is the pump mechanism, you turn the handle and it winds the bar up to move the piston. Rack and pinion.
