I'm curious if there's a way to easily remove all of the scrappy little parts inside of a 3d form made in Sketchup.

Googling "remove internal geometry" just brings up the outer shell tool which only works for overlapping components and groups, and I'm just making single irregular polyhedra rather than anything that requires repetition from components/groups.

I have no experience with any kind of 3d modeling besides some simple abstract forms I made yesterday in Sketchup.

I'm using it to make forms that I can then change into nets in Pepakura for an art installation and it picks up on all the polygons inside my form.

      Does anyone have a solution?

You might have a look at TIG's Solid Solver plugin and ThomThom's Solid Inspector. They work on groups or components and both try to create a solid which means getting rid of internal geometry among other fixes.

I want to remove the internal geometry of forms that are neither components nor groups.

What Carsten says. Or, create a section cut or hide a face so you can get inside and use the eraser tool to manually erase the unwanted geometry.

Oh. Okay. Thanks! Hiding the surfaces sounds like probably the most straightforward approach but if it seems awkward I'll try the other suggestions.

I'm kind of interested in knowing what your aversion is to making a group or a component.
