Keyboard shortcuts stopped working 2015
-
Hellnbak, that sounds more like an issue with your system rather than a problem within Sketchup itself.
Is this the computer that you have recently put together? Any chance some driver or setting somewhere is blocking the keyboard and tools tips in the 64bit section and allowing them in the 32bit.
There is a new update, maintenance release out today that might fix it. You could even install the 32bit version and see if that works to see if it is a 64bit issue. To the best of my knowledge, which admittedly isn't that great, you can't copy and paste backwards. Things made in 2015 won't paste into SU8 in the same way a 2015 file won't open in SU8. You can paste forward, SU8 To 2015 because the newer version is backward compatible but the old version isn't forward compatible. I think I confused myself just trying to type that.
So perhaps it's not a SU problem you need to sort out. Something as significant as losing shortcuts and tool tips would normally have popped up on one of the forums by now, but I've not seen it before.

Thanks Box. I sorta figured out that backward capability thing, figured that might be the case. Disappointing though.
I'm just going to stick with good old SU8, I think. 2015 is great, but, for me, not having ulcers is better. -
Be aware that Sketchup 2015 imports your older Sketchup shortcuts, but due to the renaming of the Plugins section to Extensions, most of the shortcuts won't work.
You need to redo all the shortcuts that are not working in order for them to function alright. -

They were working fine, everything was eventually working fine, and then yesterday they, among other things, stopped working, and 2015 pretty much went down the toilet.
I do still have it on my other Win7 computer and my laptop, so I guess if I do need the increased capabilities for a specific model I can always fall back to them.
I suppose, as Box suggested, it may be something to do with my rebuild of this computer. But I have been building my own computers for many years, and while I certainly do not claim to be any sort of an expert (on this or anything else) I have always sort of enjoyed troubleshooting problems with them. But nowadays it just seems like too much trouble, I just want to live each day with minimum hassles.
I was pretty much happy with 8 until 2015 came along, so I guess I can chug along with it for what I need to do.
Thanks for the help and suggestions. -
I have the same problem myself. Shortcuts in 2015/64 bit don't work. So I recreate them, and still they don't work. Yup, back to 8 till someone sheds some light on what is going on. Frustrating.

Finally got around to installing a SSD (a Samsung 840 Pro that I bought maybe a year ago), did a clean install of 7Pro and now everything seems to be fine. For now.

to fix the shortcut issue in 30 seconds open Preferences.dat in Notepad and using 'find-replace' swap 'Plugins' to 'Extensions'.
Believe me SU2015 64bit worth it. -
hey, thanks for that tip rv1974! I'll try that right away and report back.
-
Could not find location of preferences.dat by search or looking into the subdirectories. So I tried generating a new preferences.dat and reimporting it. That works but then the shortcuts still aren't saved when edits are made to add more shortcuts. Any other ideas?
-
Recently upgraded to SU 2015 and have also had trouble getting shortcuts to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt

Yes, give us more details. What kind of trouble?
-
Switched from SU 2013 to 2015. Now, basic hot keys like 'T' for tape, or 'M' for move don't work. For now I'm using the tool bars, which kinda slows things down. Suggestions?
-
Try resetting your shortcuts in the shortcuts panel. I've seen that happen to a lot of instalments and it makes all defaults work. Start adding custom shortcuts only after this.
-
Resetting the shortcuts worked! Thank you so much CASCA. Now I can stop banging my head off the wall. SketchUcation is such a great resource.
-
Also, for future reference, to reset Shortcuts, on the SU menu bar, go to Window > Preferences > Shortcuts > Reset All.
-
Hoping someone sees this since I am not using 2015 but 2016 but did not think I should create another thread.
I just upgraded to a new 27" iMac, and using SU 2016. Everything worked perfectly for the first couple of weeks, and then yesterday for no apparent reason my shortcuts stopped working? Frustrating having to keep going to the tool bar, so how can I fix this please?
-
KathrynG, it's a well known bug. Unfortunately SU shortcuts don't work in 27" space.
-
Hmmm... that's weird, because they did for the first two weeks that I had the new computer - flawlessly, and then yesterday - boom, just stopped. I also just went to my preferences and added some new ones, such as putting back the space bar for the selection tool and Command B for the orbit tool and a couple of others and they seem to be working?
I will have to keep an eye on it, and see what happens. Thanks for responding.

Yup - just went back to check and all the new ones that I added are working just fine.
