Looks solid but isnt....
-
Hello all,
First post on here and its for a problem I cant seem to solve (total lack of experience trying to use anything to make 3D images.
I have used the solid inspector and it says I have a problem (which is interesting because before I combined the two objects they were individually solid).
I have tried to tidy up the offending area but any time I delete any lines it takes away the whole surface. Id really appreciate any advice....

There are double faces across the front.
Just remove them and it will be solid.
Also orient your reversed faces or it will never work in printing.
Purge your files before uploading them, it reduced it to 450kb.

Thanks. I will give that a go.
Possibly a stupid question, how do you orient a face? Is this why some of them are grey in colour? (I was curious about that).

The Grey are the back faces, or inside faces. The orientation of the faces can be crucial to how the faces are used in renders and printing. Get in the habit of keeping them the right way around.
On your model it's actually quite simple. Right click on one of the white faces and select Orient Faces.
I reread your post, the trick to fixing those faces is to click on the face and delete it not on the edge. In a couple of places there are three or more faces stacked on top of each other. -
Hi NCO, welcome to the forum!
Like Box says, Sketchup created duplicate faces in the model. You could go and click on each one of them and delete them, but a faster way is to simply open the group, Select all > Cut > Paste in Place. This almost always works to immediately remove all the duplicate faces. It's a weird quirk of Sketchup.

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciated.
