      Hi folks,

I am creating a model of a house from a matched photo. The photomatching worked fine. But the size of the house - when modeled onto the photo - is only a few centimeters. When I scale the house to its actual size it no longer fits with the photo, the matching seems lost. Obviously I need to adjust or scale the previously matched camera in some way, too, so that photo and model match again. Please, how do I do that?

I searched several online tuts on the topic with no result. Any help on the correct workflow is much appreciated.

      Cheers
      Mikar

you can set the scale of the grid in photo match with the "spacing" input box.

use the blue and orange line to scale the drawing. put your mouse in the middle of one of those lines, click and move your mouse and the grid will grow or shrink...

          • Edit the matched photo (right click context)
          • Change the grid spacing (zoom): move mouse over the blue axis (until you see the double arrow), click and hold, move mouse up and down to match the resized geometry and the photo

Next time, you can change the scale of the grid (distance in the photo match dialogue) before the modeling.

          OK, Krisidious was faster...

To offer an alternative method which I find faster... after you've set up the axes for Photomatch, draw a line along a known distance in the image. Then measure it with the Tape Measure tool making sure to click on both ends. Type the length it is supposed to be and hit Enter. Acknowledge the resizing of the model.

I actually use Dave's method more often and find it much more precise.

Cool. I didn't know that would work with MatchPhoto... if I ever use it again.

Dave's is the only response that actually deals with the question. The problem is the distinction between scaling the model (changing it's relative size) to match the photo (which is accomplished by sliding along the blue [or other] axis) and changing the scale of the model so that what you've created in SketchUp can be "to scale" (actually have a door be 3'x7').

This is an old thread, but even before then I had done a couple photomatches which I developed into an accurate model that still worked with the photo. It has been so long. But I know it is possible.

As you like, isn't one satisfying answer not enough?
