      Hello,
I am having periodic issues with pro 14.1.1282, happens when I open a file, and close.
I get "Sketchup not responding" and a black line then black bar across the bottom of my screen. The line is thin, and the bar is about 1/2" or 1". SU hangs for several seconds, then goes on its merry way and completes the task.
It's not all the time. completely random.
The files are 3mb to 10mb.
windows 8.1.update 1 (whatever the most current version is with all patch Tuesdays installed).
      16GB ram
      i7 3770
😄 Samsung ssd 850pro 256gb (maximized for performance)
      e: Toshiba 1t
      NVidia gt630 current drive 340.52
I tried sketchup pro 13.0.4812 no black lines, it worked fine.
Any thoughts, or any one else have this problem?
      Thanks,
      Glenn

a common issue with many programs since Windows Vista, the black lines probably because the DWM display output is interfering with the OpenGL display output of SU (aka screen artefacts).

not very much you can do about this... the screen artefacts you may get rid off by disabling the OGL screen acceleration of SU ("Window > Preferences > OpenGL > Use Hardware Acceleration")... which obvioulsy may lead to a slower display output with screen transformation operations (zoom, rotate, move etc.) especially in connection with big models.

        htc,
        Norbert

          Thanks for the reply.
But why does this happen in SU 2014 and not prior versions?

maybe new Ruby or a faster file saving mechanism... or your system load has changed...

              Thanks,
but I think something is wrong with SU 2014. I spent some time working in pro 2013, that problem didn't occur.
Opened pro 2014 and black line and long save time randomly occurs.
I've also read a lot of posts here about 2014 issues.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Trimble about this?
If they are going to force us to pay yearly maintenance or face fines to reinstate, I think they should be held accountable with their releases.

To contact Trimble with technical issues:
                http://help.sketchup.com/en/contact

on that page are several options, including direct contact for pro licensed products.

That url can also be accessed while in the program by Sketchup Menu> Help> Contact us.

I had a minor issue and contacted them through this method. They were reasonably prompt and responsive with a solution.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

                    glenn:
2013 ok and 2014 issues does not mean it is a foregone conclusion the problem is 2014 although probability higher. It sounds like 2014 is waiting from some entity to release its operation such that 2014 can complete the close action. This can be caused by virus, autoruns etc. You would be surprised the number of programs running on you machine.
Make sure you graphics driver, antivirus definitions are up to date and run scan of your system. If your security software has the option check auto runs(startups) and stop programs you do not need and also run registry scan.
I have not seen this issue with my 2014 but using free so Trimble will probably have problem duplicating issue although they should be able to have you run a program to trap failure using some of the System Internals TS tools.
