      Well, I'm no developer... My interest is in this is from a web hosting and website construction point of view and I don't get what costs so much money. Is it for this company to host the website? Are there "code pros" that check your work? If it were just the code for a website that did as you say, acted as a repository with revision controls then I don't know why sketchucation wouldn't host something like this http://git-scm.com/ on it's own server? Or is it because the work will be commercial and this is like a fee based on commercial use? My dedicated server starts at like .08Β’ per hour which would be like $700 per year.

        That's a git terminal or GUI.

        Here I am talking about giving devs a place to store info in the same manner that github does.

          Disadvantages?

          Why does this offer over GitHub or BitBucket?
          BitBucket even offer free private repos.

          And beside just Git, are there other features around it? Like you see on BitBucket with issue trackers, Wiki, group management, download sections.

          There is also the matter of BitBucket and GitHub especially are the de-facto standard Git service providers with all the community around it for sharing and contributing.

          So the expense is server space or? That just seems really expensive. I thought there were open source gits that were free to run?

          I ditto this question. I'm wondering what are the advantages one would be paying for?

            Everything you see in GitHub/BitBucket is available also. Issues, Wikis, Tracking, Gists etc...

            No member will pay for the service I just put the price out there so devs were aware of the cost.

              Right, I see. That confused me.

              But I still don't see the advantage. Not something I felt was missing.
              The advantage of GitHub is that "everyone" is there already, making the threshold for sharing and collaborating in essence zero. There's is this big community of pretty much every open source project available in one central place to track - why "go off the grid"?

              ...now, if there was a "Push to Publish" feature...

                We are simply playing with the idea of giving devs better version control in an environment where other devs gather.

                Each to their own though.

                It'll either be used or not. Hence the original post.

                  I think it's a great plan and I think it would definitely be used... I'm just wondering why it couldn't be implemented for less money.

                    This.

                    Git linked to the pluginstore would be awesome.

                      I agree with thomthom. If I was a fish, why should I make the jump from the ocean into a pond?

                      I don't see so enough activity on github projects that it's worth the effort to migrate them once here once there. Wouldn't it do it if we just improve the linkings between SCF and code hosting sites (and everyone can enjoy there prefered code hoster, including bit bucket). Maybe a "source code" tab in the plugins store (next to "documentation" and "release notes").

                      And and improved and visible button for issue reporting. Users still abuse ratings to "report" something. This is extremely demotivating and unthankful to the developer, and the developer still has no clue what is wrong. I delete (and have deleted) plugins if users don't appreciate the work.

                      On the other side, if it was possible for users to use an issue tracker without registering an extra account somewhere then there would be a remarkable advantage.
                      And automatic building, packaging and publishing etc. 😎

                        The bug reporting is being worked on. We just need to figure out some of the details before testing.

                        It will be a process through which you (the dev) will see the bug submissions on the dashboard and the members can flag posts as bugs on the forums. Unflagging will also be possible.

                        Users can also flag a bug through the plugin and submit some text.

                        We need some method where the dev doesn't need to read 3 pages of posts just to find that one post that has a bug.

                        @andreas

                        the ratings system was an experiment on our side. we needed to see how proactive users were with microtransactions.

                        there's a very good chance we will retire it to the site only for v3.0 of the pluginstore.

                        @all

                        we are definitely listening to all the suggestions here. if there's things you want to happen let us know as we entering into knuckle down time soon.

                        if you want to play an active roll in v3.0 let us know.
