Ruby 2 Question
-
Hi all
Personally Im totally gutted with the latest release of SU 2014. Its been a long time of updating since Ive been wow-ed by new releases. Ive been using SU since version 4 and it has been a huge part of my work flow in designing Housing. I have never since then, been as exited with new releases, as I have been with the amazing work of pluggin releases. To all those pluggin developers out there I am so thankful.
My question is to the pluggin developers. With the new Ruby 2, will this make it easier to push the boundary's of pluggin development? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I really do not know a thing when it comes to Ruby.

Ruby 2.0 is definitely a progress, because it is faster, but also, it is a promise of stability of the Ruby environment for the next 2 or 3 version of Sketchup.
But what does matter most at the end is the Sketchup Ruby API itself. And there is still a list of features that are desirable.

Indeed, and we're only getting started. Main thing for SU2014 was to get the Ruby core up to date, then fixing critical bugs and crashes. We also tried to add as many missing features as we could fit in.
Work will continue and there should be a nice long changelist for the Ruby API in the next release as well.As always, it's a good idea to make sure you have your wishes filed. We're still reviewing lots of old issues and feature requests.
I'd also encourage developers to make not only technical requests but also describe the higher end goal of what you would like to produce. From that we could work on providing API methods that would be a broad usability.

On my side, here are some inputs (that was my contribution to Developer Unconference)
Ruby API Evolutions - Fredo6.pdfA few of them made their way to SU2014.

That's a good list Fredo. Many of those are on my own personal wish list as well.
There certainly isn't a shortage of things to do. The hard part is figuring out where to start. :s
