Problem with "scenes", need help please
-
Hello,
I am trying to create an animation with scenes.
I have various components assigned to specific layers.
It is easy enough to create an animation wherein each scene includes certain layers that have been turned on and
so it appears as though, in this case, a deck is being constructed. The problem is that I want a scene in which say a particular board appears on screen ( layer gets turned on) but not in the proper place, and then the next scene shows the board being moved in to place.
When I create these two scenes and then show the animation, the board appears in its final resting place in the first scene, even though the little thumbnail in the scenes window shows the board out of place.
In other words, creation of the second scene updates the position of the board in the first scene, which I do not want.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Stefan

What are you doing wrong? You're thinking about how this all works wrong. Imagine the scene as a camera position looking at a group of objects. If you move one of the objects, that move will show for all camera positions. To do what you want, make a copy of the board component and position that copy "out of place". Put the board on a different layer that you have turned on for one scene but not the other. Effectively you have more than one board and you're showing each one in turn.
I used the same method to make an animation showing the doors on this sideboard opening. Here I've shown all the copies of the doors--all the layers are turned on. By changing which layers are displayed for each scene and stepping through the scenes, the doors appear to open or close.
Here's an animation I did a long time ago using the same process.

Thanks for a great and clearly presented answer. I get it.
