"Barca" lounge chair
-
An amazing object/chair/sculpture in boat form ("barca" means boat in italian) designed by the danish Jacob Jorgensen.
Apparently complex, but beautifully simple instead: just one wooden slat repeated 28 times and wrapped around a portion of a sphere. You can freely slide each slate in order to obtain infinite variations of the shape, from strictly symmetric to chaotic. Also you can rotate the whole hull on the base. You have a couple of variations here.
Modeled and textured in Sketchup with the help of some photos and rendered in Thea.

Beautiful; and smart.

That's indeed what I thought when I stumbled on it.

I have no idea, how such chair are made in reality. though the model and render is very interesting.

Well Alvis aren't you a furniture maker? Try to build one then. -
awesome studio work massimo! i'd love to sit in that chair looking outside on a nice sunny afternoon.

Yes, in a big room facing the sea with a bottle of wine close to me and a good book.
Thanks Oli. -
Nice and cool (concept and model). I wonder if it would be comfortable though.
-
I don't know. I'd love to see one in the real though.

Massimo, mate you have a true eye for the beautiful, a gift as a modeler, and tenacity with studio setup as Oli suggests some great work that end.
What a stunning piece! I hadn't seen it before and yet I'm fairly up on most chair designs - so big thanks for the eyes up!
-
Incredible!
Edit: Nvm. Put some thought into the modeling process. Great job.
-
Thanks for the kind words guys.

I'm looking at the raw SU pictures posted here and I still can't figure it out.

Great as always!
Your renders don't surprise me anymore as they're perfect, simple and beautiful as one would expect, coming from you!
However your choice of models is simply amazing... absolutely great ones!
Congratulations,
