Selecting only one component
-
I have watched several how to videos on basic book shelf designing and I am unable to duplicate a very basic step.
- create left side, tripple click to select it, make a component.
- create right side, flip along red, tripple click to select it, make a component.
- create a bottom shelf using rectangle between two sides, tripple click that shelf, make a component.
Step 3 never works out for me. Every time I tripple click the shelf it selects the two sides as well. It never does that on the videos.
I know I am going to light myself on fire when I see how simple this fix is, but...
What am I doing wrong??

How do you create right side, is it a copy of left side you flip along red axis?
If yes look in entity info if right is an instance of left, if yes select right side, do not triple click, right-click/make unique.PS: share your model in V6 for more help.
And be welcome here. -
It's possible that you are creating the second side and bottom while you are still in the first component for editing. Make sure it is closed when you make the second side.
Also check that you aren't missing the little box on the component window which says, Replace selection with component. If this is unticked you are creating the component but also keeping the loose geometry.

You shouldn't be creating the second side. It should be a flipped copy of the left side. Watch the video here.

Thank you to all who have responded. Since I was in the first three steps of creating this drawing, I trashed it and started a new drawing. This time it worked perfectly. I know it is frustrating to not know exactly what the problem was, but I am just happy to be on my way. I am having fun again. I really appreciate you guys.

Oh by the way...
I was using the copy and flip along the red line to create the mirrored right side of the book case.
I did make sure the "Replace selection with component" box was checked in the component box.
I watched the video that was suggested by Dave R. It was very helpful. Thanks again.

John,
I'm glad the video helped.
One thing to be real picky about is to make a component of one part before you move on to drawing another part. If you do that, you'll head off a bunch of potential problems.
