REMAP/ REPROGRAM MOUSE BEHAVIOR - SKETCHUP & REVIT !!
-
Hi
I don't know if this has been posted / discussed elsewhere. I have been searching for quite some time now and could find no worthwhile solution links, hence this post. Please pardon and point me to the right resource if one exists.
My problem is this: - I work on models in both sketchup and Revit/ AutoCAD/ Max Design. Unfortunately, the middle mouse button in sketchup and the other Autodesk software is EXACT OPPOSITE. While Sketchup uses Middle Mouse Button (MMB) drag to orbit and Shift+Drag to Pan, Revit-ACAD-Max do the exact opposite, MMB drag to Pan and Shift+Drag to Orbit. After having been a long user of Sketchup over the years I have learnt that Sketchup way of assignment is more suited for productivity and ease of use, as one tends to orbit (& zoom) more, rather than pan, while navigating 3d space.
When I take my revit model to sketchup and vice versa, my brain has to re-program the usage pattern and most of the time I am panning when it is needed to orbit and a terrible frustration results.
I purchased the 3D connexion space navigator in a bid to somewhat mitigate the problem by navigating the 3d space with the left hand while clicking with the right, but since I use 99% of my design time working on keyboard shortcuts on all software (which I have coded almost common in between SU and Autodesk products), I am left with no way to control the keyboard if I am on the 3d connexion space navigator with my left hand. Hence I have chosen to not use the space navigator for power sketchup use.
I have been searching in vain for long to find an answer for this (also posted on the autodesk forums asking whether the middle mouse button could be reprogrammed to work on CAD-Revit-Max same as sketchup; the replies I received were that it is hard-coded and this behavior cannot be changed).
Does anyone here at sketchucation also suffer from the same issue while working simultaneously on Revit/Max/AutoCAD and sketchup..? Also is there a way I could remap the middle mouse button with some external software...? Do please help out. Thanks.

I am putting my 2 cents in
I am sure that some of the more advanced mice have program specific settings. -
X-Mouse Button Control
X-Mouse Button Control, A mouse configuration and button mapping tool for Windows
(www.highrez.co.uk)
This app is free (though you can donate to the dev if you wish)
Its nice and simple and allows you to customise each button any way you wish and most importantly have unique mouse configurations for different applications. -
Hi Barry
Thanks a ton for the link and the guidance. I have downloaded the tool but can't figure out how to set up the two options for the middle button state. (Please pardon my dumb IQ! . Could you (or anyone) please guide on what should be the settings ...?
Help would be greatly appreciated and yes, I do intend buying a beer & cookies for the author, he truly needs a big donation to bring out a product like that.
Someone kindly help. Thanks !!!
