Getting vectors in OR drawing smooth?!
-
Okay so... I'm designing my first thing In sketchup and it's for a bike rack to get presented to the city for approval to get physically built. I am stuck however and really frustrated. I can't seem to import a vector that retains the original shape or stroke... and I can't even free hand a curvy line without it turning to a bunch of straight lines. So so annoyed at this as its halted my project. I'm running 8pro on a Mac... can anyone help or recommend a free plugin? Thanks!!

Any chance you could give us at least an example of what you're trying to do? Images would help.
Be aware that curves are represented as a series of straight line segments in SketchUp. There is nothing you can do to change that. You might, however, be able to improve the apparent smoothness of the curves by using higher segment counts which result in shorter line segments. How you get there depends on what you're starting with, though.

Well... .dxf file that I'm saving out of illustrator. I can get it in buy it looses the stroke...

Still no image, huh?
The edges in SketchUp are just that, edges. They have one basic style. SketchUp isn't designed to work with strokes like you can make in Illustrator.

is there a plugin that I can at least redraw shapes SMOOTHLY?
an image is one thing but it has to have transparent backround... -
Dave is asking you to post an image here so we have a clue what your problem is. Without understanding what you are trying to do it is nearly impossible to advise you.

What Box said.

an image is one thing but it has to have transparent backround...As I told you already, SketchUp represents curves with straight line segments. You can't get around that and if you can't live with that, you shouldn't be using SketchUp.
It may be that you can do what you want with the native tools but we have no way of knowing. Suggesting a plugin is pointless for the same reason.

I understand it works in line segments. I'm trying to turn a contour line like say... the letter U, but into a 1 1/2" bent piece of pipe into the shape of the letter. (this perticular object will be made from exhaust pipe) so how would you pros do it?

Like this?
I drew an arc with 32 segments and a couple of straight lines off that to use as a path for Follow Me. I put a default 24-sided circle at one end of the path and ran Follow Me. Done. Looks pretty smooth to me, anyway.
