The toolbar locations and state (displayed or not) is part of the registry in Windows.

oh, thanx, not so easy.....have to save the key, maybe.....

the other idea was copying those setting to the laptop installation, will not work so easy.

          thanx for helping.

you may want use our tool BackUp Prefs v1.12 (Win only) for saving/restoring the SU 8/7/6 prefs to a file (no malware, no adware, no installation).

Out of curiosity, did you try the Save toolbar positions option under View>Toolbars?

"Save toolbar positions" was only in SU8. (It has only been added because of the issues in previous versions, and then has become needless in SU2013 because the source of the problems has been removed/overhauled.)
But one can keep SketchUp 6 and SketchUp 8 or 2013 installed in parallel.

I thought that was the subject of the OPs question.

hi, yes i did, again thanx for the tip.
on the local machine with skp8 its perfect.
since i updated all my computers now to skp 8, the missing function in skp 6 is not really relevant anymore.
for copyying between the maschines the additional software works well (small curiosity: skp seems to use the 'regional' function names , means translations for the shortcut-table, not the native program variables, so
cross-copy between german and english installation does not work, funny, but not really a problem...)
                    regards stan
