      Hello,

I am trying to update/edit my Materials by adding more wood textures.

Everything is working fine as far as adding the actual texture to Sketchup 2013. However, the texture names are not saving when I quit SU13. Even if I edit the actual .SKM file name, nothing sticks.

I don't know if it's a bug, or just user error on my part.

      Thanks for your time!
      Stew

Likely it is just a user error. How are you getting the images into SketchUp as materials and where are the materials when you try to rename them? What procedure are you using for all of this? Are the materials in the current In Model library or in some other library?

I found a work-around. Basically I re-created all of my materials from scratch. I don't know what went wrong. I think it was partial user and partial buggy 2013.

I've come to realize the current mac version of SU13 is not up to par with '08.

Hmmm.... That's not my experience at all.

I had this same problem last week and still can't figure it out..... I have been trying to create a material library for standard colors at work. SU's native material files won't export and duplicated materials revert back to the original .skm name when the program relaunches. I took it a step further by adding a new materials folder under app support > Sketchup > Materials. Then I copied and pasted materials from SU's colors, renaming the .skms to building standard materials (ex. Color_D04.skm to Sheathing.skm) When I opened SU the newly created material folder was listed however all the materials reverted back to there original name? Do I have to create my own .skms in order to rename these materials?

                Try this:

Add the materials to a model. Just make squares or something and paint them with the colors you want to use.
Go to the Colors in model library.
Right click on each material and edit the name. Make sure you hit return after typing the name and close the Edit window before going to the next.
After you've edited the names of the materials click on the List menu and choose Duplicate.
Give the duplicate library a name of your choice and hit Ok.

                Done.
