Accurately Scaled 2D Exports

How can I export an accurately scaled 2d orthographic view of a model from the free version of SU? I'm talking about a model that is about 24 inches across. I want to export an orthographic view and print it out as a tiled poster to use as a template. Every export option I've chosen exports an image of unpredictable size, generally much smaller than the actual model.

The easiest thing would be to use LayOut to create the correctly scaled view and make a PDF. If you want to do it with the free version it isn't quite as clear cut but it can be done. Since I've already written the directions out, I'll just link to them here.
