Callouts using SU Component Names
-
Cool idea. It doesn't work that way right now but maybe a future release. You should make a wish list item for that.

Hi-
The LayOut team is definitely thinking along the same lines. I can't promise when it will get done, but...
thanks,

MarcWow, yes, please, and thank you!
I've messed around with text on layers that I can toggle on and off... but it is a pain.
Being able to build a 'label' with various fields available would be excellent.
Basically anything available in the Entity Info box could transfer over... ideal w,d,l area or volume, component definition, name, etc. -

MarcThis is great. Please consider extending a scheduling component to this idea as well. If you can create a component and name it. Then it is possible to also count the number of these in a sketchup model and display that value in layout with the name description. If we could use dynamic components or some other convention to denote size or dimensions then this is another gem to add to the schedule component idea for layout.
If that works - then it is possible to do door schedules and pretty much anything else. Sketchup and Layout starts to behave like BIM.
The more information you can pull in from the component information and dynamic component information for component into a schedule database for Layout - The better.
You may have a lot of people start to take up interest from other well known BIM programs!

Any more news on thiS? I could really benefit from accessing a components attributes. Not only that but the current label tool can display a component name...but it displays the lowest level name in a component containing multiple sub components. There does not seem any way to control this.

I think that those callout autofill texts should have a lot of different features:
- Component/Group Name;
- Component Definition Name;
- Layer;
- Group Volume;
- Group Lenght, Height, Width;
- Face Material Name;
- Face Area;
- Face Slope;
- Face Perimeter;
- Line Length;
- Line Angle from, XY, XZ, YZ;
- Point Height;
- Point XYZ;
- Point X or Y or Z (Point Height...);
- Etc (everything that appears in entity info...)
Complex? Yes!
Useful? Extremely!
Would be great if this things could be referenced in a table directly on Layout, or exported to a CSV and layout could import OpenDocument Files or CSV (those excel files are not availble to everyone.
This would be THE real game changer for Layout and I hope I'll see it someday, because this is the only thing that makes me think of other software sometimes...
Best regards,
João

"his would be THE real game changer for Layout"
I agree

I agree the expanded description. I am new to sketchup and layout but this feature seems so basic and foundational. To convey the model innformation textually as well as graphically is absolutely necessary. It seems like sketch up and layout are missing half the equation.

Hi all-
Thanks for the continued brainstorming and suggestions!

marcdurant: Glad to see sketchup folks monitoring and commenting...Is there a published list of what is upcoming or a public voting mechanism to help elevate and drive priorities. It would appear that sketchup that this was a good idea a year ago and mentioned about this particular features forthcoming introduction....well over a year ago.
thanks, sketchup and layout are really great tools, it would be super to see some accelerated inclusions of features...
With warm regards, Rich

Unfortunately there's no list of upcoming features - we're not even supposed to hint about them. Believe me, I'd love to reply to request threads like this with more specific information.
