      Hi guys,

I am currently involved in creating some works for a portfolio and have hit upon a problem that i don't seem to be able to work out a solution by myself. Maybe I could call on your expertise?

I have a series of components that represent models of candy sweets, different shapes and all roughly 20 mm cubes, or 20 mm diameter disks. i want to arrange these items into a bowl or better still a glass jar to photorender. The problem is I cannot find an easy way to do this.

I have struggled with the 'drop' comman as the sweets all remained 'flat' or level, and didnt exactly fall naturally, and more often than not would not actually hit the bottom of the jar, just falling to level with the upper lip of the jar.

Then I tried sketchyphysics to get items to drop naturally, but I had similar problems with this also. The sweets just hit the level of the top edge of the jar and wouldnt go in, nor would they fall naturally.

I tried the spray plug in but the components actually intersected with each other and all lay flat on the ground plane.

This is driving me nuts, anyone got any good ideas?

That's because your jar is a concave object. I haven't use this plugin in a while, but I think you need to convert it to a convexhull or something like that.

Just to expand on this a bit:
Your bowl needs to be a collection of convex hulls arranged in a bowl shape. If you make it one convex hull it will behave like it is a box as you have seen.
What SP needs-if it is not already in there- is Concave Hull. Conceptually, this would allow one hull for the bowl and all of your candy would drop in and settle--all other adjustments being on par.

Great thanks guys, will look into this, found this on a google group forum that proves it is possible, and indeed sketchy physics is the way to do it.

              Hi, High_Viz:
The link you provided is to an older thread here at Sketchucation. Evidently it is one I missed. Is there a Google Group thread?
The images the link you gave show proof of concept for jars and bowls.

Actually, I do not have Sketchyphysics. However, I have done considerable searching and reading, as you have, to try and understand the tool- and whether I could invest the time for it.
I replied to your question with what I knew because the Sketchyphysics threads tend to sit idle for extended periods.

The information I gave is what I understood for the process to work.

Thanks, Pilou. Much much much better assistance.

Edit: The key is the Static Mesh for the container?

Depending of the form of the containers!

Better is use the primitives given by the program Sketchyphysics itself

else the key is to fragmented the containers!

For example the violet purple box above is fragmented in 5 ones: bottom, left, right, front, behind
Static mesh is only for avoid containers volumes to fall 😉
