Sketchup File Size
-
Hello all,
I am a relatively new Sketchup 8 Pro user, using sketchup largely for architecture and interior design.
The models am working with are usually fairly detailed buildings with many materials custom produced for the model. The files can get quite large as more and more detail is added, up to 200MB in some cases. I am not sure how large models typically get, but i do know that i have a hard time running these models on even a reasonably powerful computer (my home machine is an iMac with an i7 processor, 32GB RAM, though skecthup runs better on my older and less powerful PC).
I am using components, groups and layers and am purging unused periodically.
If anyone can tell me what a reasonable file size is and any tips on either reducing file size or running sketchup faster I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks!
Aaron

Certainly purge all unused stuff, but if your model is large due to the nature of the model, Chris Fulmer had a great tip regarding using scenes to handle large models. It is a very creative way to deal with this issue. I'm not sure if his models were as large, but I think his methodology might be applied to your situation.

There are also great tips in the rest of the video, but the first part might be helpful.
