Hi, all of a sudden, SU's default material has been replaced with one of my glowing materials, therefore all translucent materials have the back face glowing through(SU default).

The problem doesn't show so much in SU, its when its rendered in Shaderlight. I tried Deleting this glowing material, which SU replaced with a black material.

Even more of a problem, the default material in SU's material browser shows up as normal.

How do i restore SU'S default material to default?

      Thanks

What happens if you change to a different style than the one you've been using? Do you get the normal default material? Is it just the back face color showing through? It sounds to me as if you need to edit the default color in the Styles Edit dialog.

You know, it would be a whole lot easier if you could at least post a few images.

Are you seeing this color on a surface opposite your translucent surface or is it the back of the translucent face?

Hi Dave R, upon your advice i changed the style which solved the problem, so thanks, however, regrettably it would be now difficult to now post images.

when I go on faces in style dialogue box, I can change the colour of the back face, but i do not know how to change the SU's default material?

yes, It is on the back of the translucent face

The "default" colors are only those colors set in the style you have selected. You can make them whatever you wish. The default back face color for my default template's style is a green color because I find it easier to discern as different from shaded front faces than the blue-gray that the OEM styles use. I usually change it to either black or a dark gray before exporting images, though because the green color sometimes seeps through at the corners.

I also like the green color because for me it is easily seen when it is even only a few pixels on the screen so I can pick out holes in my model and fix them and reversed faces as I go. Make sure you are correcting face orientation, too. Generally you should have no back faces on the outside of your model.

So changing the color of the back face is changing the default color at least for the back faces. In order to get it to stay changed you need to update the style which you can easily do by clicking on its thumbnail in the upper left of the Styles window. You'll notice after editing the color there are a couple of circular arrows over the thumbnail image. They indicate the style has been modified.

Right OK, so i must inadvertently replaced my default back material, to the glowing material i did not want.

That green back facing sounds handy. It would be a good if there was somewhere where you could download other peoples templates, keyboard shortcuts etc. Recently I spent a while creating keyboard shortcuts & wasn't too bothered what key was assigned to action.

              Thanks for your help

I've sent my template to a few people but it's really not difficult to make your own. I set up a camera position and zoom distance to suit the starting point of most projects I draw as well as the back face color. I also set Profiles to 1 because I don't like the thick profiles and make sure endpoints and extensions are turned off. Units and precision are set to suit my work as well. Some folks like to establish a set of scenes with standard views although I don't find that useful in my work.

If you make your own template, be sure to purge out all unwanted components, materials, styles and so on and make sure you either update the changes to the style or save it as a new style. Then save out the new style into the Default styles library so you can get it again if you modify it in a current file.
