I am a newbie and have had some advice from someone about layers and groups - so I have grouped and put some buildings and garden layout on a layer so I can work on it separately from the original garden layout However now I want ot use Paintbox to render the surfaces. Do I have to explode the group and start again? Does exploding mean the group doesn't exist anymore? Or can I explode, use Paintbox on separate things within the group, then de-explode back into the group? My head is exploding... 👊

      Thanks for any assistance! 😄

Jane, first of all, layers don't separate things in SketchUp like they do in other programs. Layers are only used to control visibility of components and groups. Separation is done by "wrapping" entities in components or groups.

If you want to paint the surfaces inside a group, do not explode it. Just right click on it and choose Edit Group or double click on it with the Select tool.

You should probably take a few minutes to read the Online Help files related to layers. Start here.

paintbox may be a part of an extension(?) called "Merlin's Toolkit Pro". At least that is what I discovered by googling this string: "paintbox plugin for sketchup". I know nothing else about it.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.
