How to route a groove on the curved wall of a hole?
-
I have a board with a 4 in hole going through it and I want to know how to route different grooves some where in the middle of the wall that would go around the inside circumference of the hole. I want to then put a O ring in the groove. Not sure what the easiest way to do this would be. Thanks

build up the hole from one side to the other using push pull and offset.

Or draw your profile.... The hole section and do a follow me along path along a 4" circle.

The other option would be to create the o-ring as a group or component and position it in the hole. If that doesn't look right for presentation purposes you could then select the hole wall faces and intersect them with the "rest of the model" and trim to suit.
Sometimes you never see the detail and don't need to model it!

Trevor has a good point. If the thing will only be shown with the O-ring in place maybe you don't need the groove. But, if you did, you could do as Kris indicated. Sometimes the most straightforward way to do it is to draw the negative space, intersect it with the board. then you simply remove what you don't need. That's how I did it here.
