Render plugins
-
Hi,
I'm looking for a high quality render plugin that has a good support base but I don't have a big budget. I like the look of yafaray but think it is more for Blender. Twilight is also another version I have looked at. Do any of these have sites to swap materials? Would love vray but sadly is to dear.
Any suggestions from people that have used them?
Thanks

I am using Twilight at work. If you buy a licence you get access to to the Red Carpet area where materials, models etc. can be downloaded. This is part of the Twilight forum where you will also get technical support and all the usual forum areas.
Twilight and Thea were developed from Kerkythea (which is free, but takes longer to learn) Materials from Kerkythea can be used in Twilight, so you can develop your own materials in Kerkythea and use them in Twilight. Twilight is well worth the money but if you are really strapped for cash try Kerkythea first. -
Does it have to be a render plugin? Kerkythea seems to have a decent support base and it is free.

Can you create materials in twilight? Is there render farm support for twilight?

Yes you can create materials in Twilight and I'm not sure about render farm support. I do know the Thea does have render farms available.

I think render farm support is planned for the future, but you can also export from Twilight to Kerkythea which does support render farms. There is also a 64 bit version of Kerkythea to make use of more RAM if you have it and speed up the render times. You can try Twilight for free as a demo version and have a browse of the forum.

Twilight is great for learning and makes great renders.
Support is great! Go to their site a poke around. -

Twilight uses the render engine from Kerkythea, but Thea render has different core and material system (even the developer is same as with Kerkythea). Thea can import Kerkythea scenes, but it does a one way conversion.
About twilight renderfarm, there is one beta (that actually is Thea based and uses Kerkythea to Thea conversion) at http://renderact.com/. Possible other Thea render farms may accept Kerkythea XML scenes
