Buying a new computer?

Will do. I expect I'll place my order tonight or tomorrow. Can't decide between the 128GB and 256GB SSD.
-
pete, my company is still deciding between this and an OriginPC spec. I hope to take advantage of this. Did you say how long the promotion will last?

No problem, if you want to PM me the specs from Origin and the price I will set out to beat it with exact machine.
I cannot say for sure how long this deal will last, have not discussed duration, I know for sure it will be the next two weeks at the very least.
-
Pete, did you already order your machine? I just ordered one. I also spoke with Adam on the phone. Nice guy.

Not yet, I'm awaiting a few payments from work I have completed, hopefully it will be this week. I'm excited about it though.

Lol, I feel ya: "check's in the mail"
Beginning of the year always seems slower to get payments. Everyone's so darn prompt in December... -

Pete,
I'll let you know for sure but I think I may end up taking advantage of this. I was going to hold out for awhile but this looks like a pretty good deal. Just to verify, basically I just go to your link ( http://www.jncs.com/php2/thea.php ), click the computer setup I want to buy and checkout? No need for promo codes or anything, right?
Thanks,

That is correct, in the check out you can add remarks, feel free to mention my name if you want, or if you want to make any changes then leave a remark or email Adam.
It is a great deal for sure.

Except for Euroweenies you can only look over fence and grimace.

Hi Pete,
I plan on going with option #2, however I'm a bit of a newbie to sketchup (and CAD-CAM in general), so I'm looking for some recommendations for a replacement monitor. My current setup is a 3 year old HP that is theoretically designed for "games and video", but it really isn't a serious graphics computer. I'm going to give this one to my wife (and she is OK with me getting a new one because I'm hogging the computer as of late), so now is a good time. More importantly, my sketchup is bogging down, and I haven't even started rendering yet, so I figure I need the right tool for the job.
Other than some "standards" like a mouse, keyboard, and speakers (and the monitor), is there anything else that I would need?
Thanks for setting all of this up for us!
Frank

I am also going for option 2, I have two Samsung 27" monitors currently and it works fantastically for what I need, I have SU on the left monitor and email, explorer, internet, etc on the right. The machine is complete just add mouse and keyboard which you can even get from them.
-
Thanks, Pete. I'm on it.
Sending my order now....

I would be willing to commit to one. As a newbie to all things hardware,I would also be very interested in everyone's thoughts on monitors. I am currently doing architectural and light industrial designs if that info makes any difference.
-
Tim,
I use 2 monitors as I believe many folk here do, I bought two identical Samsung's positioned side by side, so far I am extremely happy with them.

Thanks Pete, very helpful.
I went to your link for the computer and I think the second version is also my choice. I appreciate the time you've spent getting all of this together. I have 33 years experience in custom millwork design and manufacturing (which I hope offsets my lack of technological knowledge), so from one Texan to another, contact me if I can ever be of assistance to you. -
Pete,
I did my own research (I get a bit obsessed with comparing setups whenever I start looking at buying a new computer). Using these setups as a basis I ended up deciding that it was, indeed, the best deal. None of the companies I looked at really had a comparable price. Dell didn't have a comparable product. I could build a system piece by piece for a bit cheaper but last time I did that I ran into some bios issues that created enough of a hassle that I thought this time it would be worth it to have them build the PC, overclock/test it, and warranty it.
Thanks for putting this together. I'm probably going to buy mine in a month or so. I'm planning on going with the least expensive option because I don't need the upgraded video card. I may upgrade the SSD though. I had a little email conversation and was pleased with the customer service so far.
BTW, upgrading to the bigger SSD is $97. I was also informed that if you want them to overclock the CPU you can just let them know in the comments what you'd like it set at. I'm probably going with 4.2 (they recommended 4.0-4.2 to keep a stable system with some longevity).

My computer shipped late yesterday. It's supposed to be here on Monday. the whole process so far has been very good. I got an e-mail when they started it, another when they started the stress testing and a third when they finished that. then two e-mails indicating it had shipped. they even sent me a photo of it while it was being built which was kind of neat to see.
