I have a two part question about terrain construction:

      1. I want to give my terrain a vertical thickness. i.e. I want there to be a "box" underneath the terrain. Do I need to make it a solid and use the solid tools? How do I make it a solid?

      2. How can I divide a large area of terrain into separate pieces so that I can work on them individually and then later piece them all back together to make one larger terrain model made up of multiple components?

      Thanks for the help!

        Hi Scott, hi folks.

For your point 1, I (and others too) already answered that recently and not so recently.

          Hi Scott,

Have a look at this recent topic:

As for the second question: it's a simple matter of intersection to get your terrain apart - but bear in mind that you should avoid modifying the edges where these pieces meet otherwise the transition won't be smooth when you put them back together.

And please, do not post the same question in more than one forum. Thanks.

Also note: It does not need to be a "solid" to add the skirt to the terrain as in many different methods given.

You can also separate sections of terrain by selecting along one side of existing edges. Use hidden geometry to find the edges.

              Excellent technique. Extremely helpful. 😄
