Imported inventor files has faceted flat faces
-
Hi, this is my first question on this forum. I've imported a model from autodesk inventor using SimLab 3D pdf software to convert the file from dwfx. While it seems to have worked, there are a lot of extra facets and lines where I'd like there to be flat faces. Is there some way to simplify the model from this? I really just want to create a suitable image for inclusion in a brochure. I could try and figure out how to include a screenshot in this post if needed. Thanks for any help!

Hi Michael, hi folks.
Have you tried the Optionsbutton in the import dialog window to see if there is an option to merge coplanar faces.
If the import dialog window options that you have for the type of file that you use don't have such a choice, a possibility is to export the model as DWG and then reimport it back in a new file with this option checked.
This may help.
Just ideas.

If the object is a solid, then "Solid Inspector" should show you where the problems lie.
Then, if not too complex, "Solid Solver" might clean up much of it (and by the same token, could make it worse!!)
However, I have learned that the object need not be a "solid" for SI to help. If you ignore the obvious "errors" such as an open face which is correct, SI will point out the other excess lines and faces where you should be able to determine what is error and what is not.
