Need help drawing lines in layout

Hi All
I'm having a problem: when I draw more than one line over a scene in Layout it creates
a white mask over the scene. What's the dealeo? I'm sure I must be missing something simple here.
I've tried drawing on the layer with the scene. I've tried locking the scene layer and drawing
lines on it's own layer. Can't figure it out.Thanks in advance!

in the 'shape style' panel, click on the 'fill' button (i.e.- turn off the fill behavior)
