Terrain Drape!!
-
Hi All
Hope somebody can help with a problem with draping cad onto terrain.
I have tried using Sketchup 8 and 7 and normal drape and super drape.
It draped about half the cad but what ever i try to do with the rest it just crashes after 30 - 40 mins.
Any ideas??
N.b Can not add the terrain to the post as it is 16mb but could send direct.

Break down what you are draping into parts. This way it also helps with assigning layers to the line work that gets draped. Start with the property lines, then setback, then easements, then trees and so on. Each time you drape a set of elements, highlight them on the terrain and assign a layer. This way you will have complete control over what is visible. It also reduces the amount of information you are trying to drape in a single command.

Hi Sonder
Thanks for the tip, tried draping just a simple square and it still plays up, so think it must be the mesh.

I experience crashes with Drape so often that I often just intersect extruded edges even before attempting Drape.

The only time I ever have Drape cause a crash is if I try to drape too many items. It will also crash from certain ACAD imports, if you do not explode blocks. Other than that, it has been extremely stable for me.

Make sure the entire selection is within the area of the mesh. If any part of the geometry to be draped is overlapping void space, Drape and SuperDrape may crash.
If the mesh is an import from CAD, it's very likely complex and messy. See if you can clean it up, either in CAD or use a script like Vali's Instant Terrain.
Also, be sure to clean up your AutoCad import as well - no open or short lines, fully faced, etc. -
So far ThomThom's method is the only one that works, tried desperately to avoid it as I still have over 100 houses yet to drape!!

Can you not do them en masse?
