Ad Blocking on this website?
-
Using the same chrome setup you mention and while downloading a movie and connected to my server in Oslo from my wifi connection at home in Germany, the post a reply opens instantly.
-
Well been doing some checking and these are my result from Clovis NM USA- Sheffield England. Thing is while replying to post it will be fine on sec then I'm back to waiting like Pete on Chrome it stuck on sending request.
And Pete's got some pretty fast internet there
-
Just to show you it doesn't seem to be related to internet speed as such or my steam powered connection would be something of a problem.
-
Obviously internet speed has nothing to do with connection speed as I see.
I'm surprised at your speed Ben, I'd always thought that Europe has superior internet speeds, I did a test on my Samsung Galaxy 3 using 4G and got decent speeds I guess (I thought it was slow)
-
Problem for me Pete is I'm in former east Germany in a village that has only recently been able to get any sort of broadband. The infrastructure just couldn't cope with it. Although my house is only a twenty minute drive to the centre of Dresden the house next door doesn't have gas or a sewer connection. Things are changing here pretty fast but then again pretty fast is all relative.

Login can truly be slow, I have seen that myself, too occasionally.
again.. ditto for me.. slow login but everything else is snappy
[and my internet speed.. though i think it's already been established that this isn't part of the problem, posting your internet speed on the internet is required at least once a year.. so now i'm good til 2014 ]
[off:1899mevl]edit-- and even more off topicโฆ.
i would think internet speeds would be better than that in nyc but i guess there are a bazillion connections happening around here which will put a damper on things..
this is the list of wifi networks i can see from my 5th floor apt in a strictly residential area.. probably gets even more congested in other parts of the city..

Here's my speed...
Here's my neighbourhood....
I don't suffer from wifi congestion
I do suffer from isolation though

that looks eerily similar to my mom's house.. she lives on the outskirts of this one-stoplight (literally) town(?)..

Stoplights? We don't even have streetlights...
-
.....and you tell the young people of today that and they don't believe you!

Sounds like a Monty Python skit

Indeed, the Four Yorkshireman, new version is very good too. Youtube will get you there.
-
Verryyy slooowwww with adblock off, takes over a minute to load pages, sorry this is a big problem folks.
-
No speed problems here. Less than 3 secs to load page.
There's a tool under Inspect Element in Chrome that allows you to view the load times of every item on a page. Or Dev Tool in IE, F12 I think.
If you can find the cause then maybe we can investigate.

Well, mine seems to be faster indeed - but I am not sure this should explain site slowness to that extent.

not after seeing pete's results.. his internet is way faster than anyone else here but he's experiencing a slow scf

you need to tone down the adblock detection guys.
right now, it's triggering if it even detects adblock is installed and enabled.. even when the site is whitelisted! and sorry. I am NOT uninstalling it just to come here. I make an exception for you guys alone. I've actually had to install a secondary browser to use here with no adblocks installed to test but thats not staying for long.. I dunno what you changed but...
(I have an aversion to flashing things constantly extorting me to buy crap, rogue adverts trying to install malware (right now there's a lovely ad that pops up on Notalwaysright that keeps trying to install something on my Nexus 7 tablet if I use that to read the articles...) etc. )

Thank you! I have an adblock active for the same reasons, always had and I don't want to waste my time cleaning up malware.

Khai, I also have AdBlock installed and when I disable it on SCF, it works fine. The "solution" here is not "sensing" if AdBlock is installed or not but if ads are displayed or not.
