if i import a model [that has inches as its units] in an existing model that has millimeters, it gets out of size. This happens also when we copy paste directly from warehouse panel in the sketchup window

is there a quick way, sketchup identifies the size in a practical way and inserts it without changing its actual size?

Of course there's a workaround of opening the model in a new window then copying pasting it into the desired model (that's open in another new window)

      Sketchup Make 2017 (64-bit), Vray 4.0 , Windows 10 โ€“ 64 bit, corei7-8750H, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB

This never happened to me (unless the model was indeed out of scale).

If a component inserts at the wrong size, it is likely that it was made at the wrong size. i see this frequently when getting models from the Warehouse. The person who drew it originally drew it at some larger size. they may have scaled the component down for their own use after making but the component definition was created at the larger size so that's what gets uploaded to the warehouse. Maybe that's what you are running into. It has nothing to do with the units that were used for drawing the SketchUp component nor the units you have selected.

I've never come across this in more than 10 years. AFAIK SketchUp measures everything internally in inches, regardless of the units being used. A component that imports too big does so because it is too big.

As Dave says, this is almost certainly a question of component definition. For instance, if you create a chair 10x normal size then select and make it a component, the component definition will be 10x normal size...even if that component in the model space is then selected and shrunk down to normal size. All you have done is reduced that componet instance to normal size...not the definition. To change that, you need to enter component edit mode and shrink the actual geometry inside the component itself.

You need to do this before you start peppering your model with multiple instances that have already been 'instance-scaled'...otherwise those already-scaled instances will shrink even further.

Or you can right click on such a component in model space and "Scale definition". In fact, if this menu item is active (i.e. not greyed out), it is a good sign of the component instance having been scaled.

Now why didn't I think of that?....especially as I did exactly that myself only yesterday. ๐Ÿ˜„
