      Hi,

I've built a few dynamic door and window components. Now I would like to dynamic text strings in the XY plane for these components, so that door width and height is visible as text from the models top view..

Does anybody know how to do this? I assume there must be some kind of "write" command?

you could use dimensions for this..
open the component then add dimensions in their desired location..
the dimensions will update when the DC changes size...

That sort of works, but it leaves a lot of clutter in the form of dimension lines, and doesn't really give me the degree of control I'm looking for.

So there is no way of just making sketchup write a text string in a certain position and direction?

no.. you could do some stuff with OnClick Alert but then you have to click the component with the interact tool in order to view the text..

some sample files can be found here.
