Greetings all! I'm using Sandbox to create the rock formations known as "Garden of the Gods" located in Colorado Springs,CO. One of the formations features two rock outcroppings facing each other and is named "Kissing Camels".Here's my question-using Sandbox can I make a rock outcrop of more than 90 degrees? To illustrate my point think of Mt.Rushmore and the noses of the American presidents. And if it's possible to do will it compile correctly? My ultimate goal is to place it in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.I hope I have described my problem correctly.Thank you in advance!

      Hi unclegreg:
Theoretically, you can do this with a little planning, but you would have to reposition your terrain so that the smoove will always work in the vertical direction of the global z blue axis. You might do this by making more than one terrain, or tipping the current one for the overhang deformations. Alternately, there is an older plugin by -BTM called sculpt tool. And of course, there is Artisan which is a commercial plugin. There are some others, both free and commercial.
But you list yourself as a beginner. I don't know to what degree this is, but you should first get the hang of the native tools to become familiar with them. Your project is doable without any other plugins but Sandbox. It does take planning, no matter which approach you choose.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

        Mitcorb,
Thank you for the quick reply. It 's good to know that I can do this with just Sandbox.I have always learned best by doing so I'll give it a go.I remember accidentally hitting some combination of keys that produced a horizontal move in the smoove tool.Do you know what that combo would be? Would that be the way to go? And to answer your question, yes I am a real newbie at SU.

Hold shift and it will pull out the vertices along their "normals". Or I think It pulls them all out along the normal of the vertex under the cursor. something like that, just go try it.

          Chris

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

Thanx Chris. I've been playing around with the shift key and it does work...sometimes. I've even gotten the control key to manipulate the poly lines...sometimes. I just can't nail down which plane they work on.Thanx again.
