      In the material browser, go to the "In model" library. Open the secondary browser window with the top right button and navigate to a material folder you want to "save" your texture to. Now you can simply drag and drop that material to this folder. Opening a new model, it will be available there for you for later use.

          I have another textures question. I've imported a texture, right-clicked on it, and then chose texture>edit texture image. The texture then appears in Windows Photoviewer (see screenshot). What am I supposed to do with that? I understand scaling the texture with the four pins. But not with the Photoviewer.

            Rose, SU will open image files in the application you have set to open them in your system - unless you particularly specify an application in SU under (Window menu) Preferences > Applications.

            Normally I also have a simple(r) image viewer set for images but of course, for any more serious image manipulations, one would wish to set something better.

              Thanks, Gaieus! Still not quite sure what I should do, tho. I went to Windows/Preferences/Applications. I get a field for "choose," just like your screenshot. But choose what? What am I supposed to navigate to?

              eta- oh, ok, I navigate to an image editor. So I go outside SketchUp to edit it.

              eta again -Still not working, though. I navigate to Irfanview, which is what I thought I'd edit it with, but nothing happens after I click "ok." I guess I should do any editing before importing it, and just use the four pins to do further editing.

                You need to point to an image editor, not a viewer. I'm not too familiar with irfanview but its only a viewer. So point to Photoshop, or GiMP (free).

                Then it will open that software and let you edit the image. you then save the image, and it gets updated automatically in SketchUp.

                  Yes, what Chris says. Navigate to an image editor (under program files, browse to its directory and find the - probably *.exe - file which otherwise launches the app).

                  Now once it's opened in this app, any changes you make in the image file (paint on it, tweak lightnes, saturation etc.) will immediately be reflected (updated) in SketchUp.

                    Ok, thanks. Actually, irfanview is also an editor. But I couldn't get it to work inside SketchUp. Seems like editing it first before importing makes the most sense?

                      Actually both methods can be handy at times.It depends. Sometimes you wish to edit a material after you already applied it in SU. Especially materials that do not tile but cover whole faces. Say when you make all the tiles of a certain material a unique texture spanning from edge to edge on a whole face. Then ad something fancy (like graffiti on a wall) in an editor.
