[Request] Best Fit Plugin
-
I have two different sized mats that need to fit (best fit) on the irregular shape in the picture. The mat dimensions are:
7' x 13'
7' x 6'6"From this I need to figure how many of each size mat will be needed and the total sq/ft of each sized mat. I looked through the plugins and didn't find any that would quite do this. Maybe I missed it though.
Thank You,
Paul

Are you looking for the total number of "whole" mats of each size that will fit in the irregular shape? If not then a "Hatch" plugin should suffice.
-
Yes Sam. I am looking for the total number of whole mats of each size. In the photo you can see that the mats are offset a bit around the perimeter.
Thank You,
Paul

This picture shows the overall dimensions of the mats. They interlock. The surface dimensions are:
7' x 13'
7' x 6'6"

Paul,
What is the process. Do you start in the middle and work outward or in a corner? Do you use the larger ones first and add smaller ones around the edges or all large or all small?
-
Sam,
I really don't know what the process is. Got these pictures off of the internet. I'm guessing you would start in the middle with large mats and add the smaller ones as needed to get the "best fit."

This type of algorithm is useful for optimizing sheet cutting in CNC as well as your suggested methods...
If someone [sdmitch?] can makes= a workable version then it might have far reaching consequences, beyond this... -
After looking at the pictures, it looks like the large and small mats are mixed accept in the case of the long rectangular in photo #2. What is the web site where you found the pictures?
-
Thanks Tig....I'm thinking of other uses as well.
