Frustration
-
Hello, I am sort of new to Sketch Up and I have had alot of frustrating experiences, and I am here to adress them and possibly receive help. I watched alot of the sketch up tutorials but I have failed to find a tutorial on how to make a building. Just like little houses. I want to make a sci fi building but I cant because I have never seen anyone make something similar using their own methods. If someone could direct me to something similar to this if it is out there that would be great. I have googled sketch up tutorials for hours and found nothing.

Hi wes,
Although the author never completely finished the series, it's a good starter. If you have a plan drawing of a house, you can directly use the technique, if you do not, just use it as a guide line and do it from scratch.

Alright, thanks for the links. Also those buildings look pretty impressive.

Making a complex object in SketchUp is an exercise in breaking the object into simple geometries. Having used SketchUp for a while, I have grown used to looking at something that I wish to model, and parsing it into component geometric primitives. For instance, a coffee cup is a cylinder with a tube attached to it. The cylinder is offset by a small amount, and the inner circle is pushed almost to the bottom. A separate bent tube is made using the FollowMe tool along a profile made from a few lines and a radius. These are positioned together and intersected, then the extraneous bits are deleted.
I now have a habit of seeing furniture, utensils and buildings as a set of geometric solids and their modifications. This makes the world look kind of strange (Does anyone else have this problem? Do I need medication?).
The scifi buildings can also be seen as a collection of constituent parts that are positioned, duplicated and stacked together. Be sure to make these constituents into groups or components before placing them on each other.

If I might make a suggestion - if you would try to include a more accurate description of your problem or question in the subject of your post, it will be easier for others to find in the future should they have a similar situation. Plus, it will increase your chances that someone with expertise in the area you are having a problem with will notice the post and maybe provide the help you need. For instance, rather than simply calling it "Frustration" why not "Need tutorial on making SciFi Buildings" or something along those lines.
