Don't forget to try the tree editor.
You can export foliage separated from the branch.
As obj files, watch the density to be lower than 64k each group.
Use any app that can convert it to 3ds format (blender for me). Import in SU... πŸ˜‰

          Another tip?
bryce can render equirectangular panoramas. πŸ˜‰

Still one of the best apps for landscapes?

One of my first 3d apps, back in 97
It still looks like a 97 app.

          Hexagon for free.
It says, free for a limited time.
          What does this means?

Hexagon. prone to crashes (unfortunately) and basically abandoned by Daz.
Bryce, Solid and slow, and basically abandoned by Daz.

with the new management at Daz... I'd not hold out much hope of these being developed again by them.. or Carrara or even Daz Studio...

                            Use TIG's free obj exporter!
Meshlab or blender to weld vertices (SU vertices aren't welded on exporting). Be aware of wrong (blue by default) normals of faces!
Textures will be exported too but I'm not sure if Bryce assigns them automatically. You may use the bryce silly tex editor to reassign.

Thanks Pilou, but I use Kerkythea for rendering. I'm trying to stay in the SU/Kerky environment for now.

Bryce is just a thing to play with. Its biggest draw for me is landscapes. But if I cannot easily import SU models or cannot export landscapes, then I will have to abandon it, although it could still be useful to create landscape photos for SU backgrounds.

Export anything you can from bryce as obj.
                                          Kerky can import them directly.
Blender of meshlab to convert them to 3ds. And import into SU.
Just have in mind that texture files have to be in the same dir with the 3ds. Texture files have to be named with less than eight digits!!! 3ds meshes less than 64 K tri faces.
If you follow these rules everything will work perfectly. πŸ˜‰

What's so important in bryce for you, I don't understand.
Terrains? These use elevation maps, which are nothing more than B&W displacement maps. Any app can generate a terrain. Just make a square face, subdivide it a lot and displace it. IMO it isn't the best. Lot of stretching happens, in bryce too. A remesh modifier, after this displacement, provides a better, even topology though.
That's another reason to start learning blender, a little.
These nice fractal textures on water surface? Any app has them, the serious apps, I mean. Basically these are noise generators.
Trees? bryce trees are OK but there're are much better tree generators around, and they are for free.
Skies? Here bryce is good. But, hdris are much better.
Ready made rocks or similar meshes? Again, blender has a better rock generator not anything important though. A simple box modeling is more than enough for such subjects.

What I'm trying to say here:
Bryce is for free because it is simply of no use.
There're open source apps that can do miracles these days.
I invested in blender and I'm happy for this.

                                            Hi Michalis,

Thank you for these juicy links.

I had started to learn Blender, and then for lack of time I stopped. And now, I have/want to learn everything back,'cause I have forgotten all (but it is not too much after all πŸ˜‰ ).

I remember the pleasure I had begun to feel with Blender.
I am attracted by the power of the soft, the spirit of its development, and the scale & generosity of its community.
(nothing that can be compared with DAZ Bryce )
