Just finished all the details in 'hard' lines.
Here's the result
I personaly am very satisfied with the outcome so far, not in the last place for all the time it took Had some nights looking at the clock, reading 23:00, thought to draw a line or two more...next time looking at the clock....4:30
Time flies when you're having fun, ejTook a quick rendershot with Thea, and was amazed of the renderquality at this point!
Still spotting a lot of parts that could be improved/perfected though

Next up:
Smoothing out all the 'hard' lines/edges amd prep it for some quality rendershots.
After that a new technique for me to learn: texturingPlease C&C me
-
Looks great already but keep coming with the details and has potential to be amazing!
-
This is fantastic, came out a lot better than I imagined it would, like Liam said keep us updated, well done
-
Love the complexity and amount of detail in this thing. Now if it just had racing stripes and high-speed hubcaps!
-
Thx alot you guys!!
@ Liam: there isn't a lot more detail to give as in parts, cause it's an exact copy of the modeling I'm working from. There are some parts which I tend to enhance in detail though.
As for the detail in soft lines/smooth faces, there is still a lot to be done@ Hellnbak: it doesn't stand in a garage, therefore it ain't a car

Yeah I know I just meant invent some details hehe (functional of course.

This is coming along fantastic, cannot wait for the final image, all the dirtmaps and all.
-
Thx solo!
(Good) texturing is something I still have to learn, so I hope to I can produce some quality dirtmaps and other textures
@ Pilou/Dacad: Amazing piece of machinery!! Just brilliant! Also loving the render, great setting!
I'm also thinking about a good environment for Rex, but haven't come up with anything yet... Maybe you guys have any ideas?

The hanger from MGS1? Or maybe an exterior of shadow moses? I like the idea below if you can realise that? I would be happy to help create the scene in a month if you can wait that long! Always wanted to to Rex in an illustration.
-
Thats an idea, id like to see a battle render, that would be sweet

Rex is a stealth unit built to launch 'stealth' nukes via a railgun so would never be in direct combat unless it was self defence.
Sorry had to be a geek and chip in
'Ray' the 2nd gen has more of an assault capability, not only was it a naval unit so can travel underwater but also had a huge magazine of general purpose missiles not just nuclear. That gives it the capability to strike against ships and land targets etc.

How about in a place you'd least expect such a monster like a tulip field or peaceful meadow.

and paint the Rex pink and have flower power logos stencilled on the body
-
@ Liam: you know your MGS-stuff Have thouht of making a MG Ray one day, so maybe someday a nice MG stand off render will be reality.
As for your setting proposal: I'm game! The hangar has crossed my mind and already looked up some examples of weapons storage/launching facilities.
An exterior part of Shadow Moses also is a great idea, but I think Rex would look better in an enclosed envrioment...As for your offer to help me: that would be great! And I can wait a month After all, I'm not in a hurry with this project and wan't to make it a masterpiece. What better then to collaborate with a master
Just let me know when you're up for it.@ Solo: Never thought of that, but the huge contrast between object and enviroment in your proposal could work out epic! I will keep it in mind, maybe it would be a good starting point for me to learn instancing in TheaRender. Thx for your input!
@ iichiversii:
You never know, it could look absurdly awesome -

I can't tell you how easy it is. Just a couple of clicks and it's done!!
-
@ Oli: Gave it a try the other day and it's fairly easy indeed!
Finaly round up the fine lining and rounding corners
Spent some times applying materials in TR and come to discover that I had to properly set the UV's to use the more detailed textures. So made some renders with basic/even materials
Still looking for the right textures and learning texture-techniquse to get them applied correctly with the help of SketchUV and Roadkill.
Also started working on the enviroment a bit already, starting of with an interior scene, kinda of a large military storage/resupply room. Have some nice ideas on this one
What you think?
-
Incredible!
I noticed you are showing pivot points and sliders. Are you creating this with SU Physics or something like it?
-
Thx dude!
As for the pivotpoints:
I made them with the intention to make this model a dynamic one.I played with SketchyPhysics some time ago, but found it realy unstable, cause it crashed on me a lot. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it's just real buggy.
But I don't realy know if there is another program that could do the same trick. When the time arrives, I'll have to dig into that.
It could take up to a year before making it dynamic, though. I started this model with the intention to learn stuff I didn't use/know yet, like (static) animation, detailed texturing/material use and, in the end, making it dynamic
